Tom Morello, Bruce Springsteen, and Eddie Vedder Team Up for AC/DC Cover

BY: JOEY REAMS

Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine has enlisted a couple of well-recognized musicians to cover “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC for his upcoming album, The Atlas Underground Fire, due Oct. 15. The trio first played together in 2014, when Morello was filling in on guitar for the E Street Band. Morello’s solo album was recorded during the lockdown, but he didn’t have access to an engineer due to restrictions. As a result, Morello recorded all the guitar parts on voice recordings from his phone. You can listen to the cover and see the album tracklist below.

“Our version of ‘Highway to Hell’ pays homage to AC/DC but with Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, brings this legendary song into the future,” Morello said. “One of the greatest rock & roll songs of all time sung by two of the greatest rock & roll singers of all time. And then I drop a shredding guitar solo. Thank you, and good night.”

“Hey, Ed! I’ve got an idea!” Vedder recalled Springsteen saying. “Here’s the deal. All right. First song: AC/DC, ‘Highway to Hell.’ You take a verse, I take a verse, and then you’re done. You can drink beer, you can do whatever you want. None of this encore (expletive). You don’t have to wait around. First song, hit it with me, and you’re good to go!”
