This week Phoenix posted a short black-and-white video (filmed by Guillaume Delaperriere) to social media which shows the group playing music together inside the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The video is captioned with ‘New Year, new studio#7’- a nod to their upcoming seventh album.
The French indie pop group which rose to international prominence with their hits ‘1901’ and ‘Lisztomania’ released the single ‘Identical’ this last summer, but haven’t released a full album since 2017’s ‘Ti Amo’. According to Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars, ‘Identical’ – which was released as part of the On The Rocks OST – will appear on the upcoming album “somehow”. Speaking of the new album, Mars added “There’s no coherence and it’s a little bit like our first record, maybe; ‘United’, which had songs that would explore heavy metal and then country music. And then this is the same sort of weird Frankenstein of an album.”
