The Killers have sparked speculation that they could be releasing a new album sometime soon after the group posted a picture of a mysterious track list to their social media. The Las Vegas based group released their sixth studio album Imploding the Mirage– which reached no.1 on the charts in Australia, Ireland, and the U.K.- back in August. At the time they stated that they were already in the process of working on new music.
“You know when people just say that? Every time someone makes a record they say that they have 50 songs and they’re going to release another record. We really are,” The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers told NME after the release of Imploding The Mirage. “We’re going to release another one in about 10 months. We’ve already gone back into the studio with [Jonathon, producer] Rado and Shawn [Everett, producer]. We did a week in Northern California.”
If The Killers do put out another record sometime soon, they would join the growing list of bands and artists that are putting out music much more frequently during the pandemic. Taylor Swift recently released her second album in six months. Normally this would be incredibly rare for a major artist. The Killers for example have taken at least two years between the release of all their previous albums, and more frequently taking three to four years. This is largely due to the demands of touring following album or song releases which have largely come to halt during the pandemic. It is also likely that artists are capitalizing on the optimism for return of live music this summer, and building momentum towards a potential tour in the coming months. As of right now, The Killers are still set to perform their rescheduled stadium tour of the U.K. and Ireland this May.
In Late November, The Killers released their Christmas album Don’t Waste Your Wishes on streaming services for the first time, and also recently launched their own brand of hot sauces as well.
