Record Store Day is back! The annual event that provides record-lovers a bunch of exclusive vinyl that is either never released or reissued. Last year, the event was formatted into a virtual event to accommodate the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the event transitioned into two dates, allowing for more time for production and shipping. That same format is returning for 2021, as announced via Twitter.
Record Store Day is set to take place on June 12 and July 17 at select record stores. People can find three different types of releases at both of these events: Exclusives, RSP First Releases, and Small Run and Regional Titles. Exclusives are the handful of records that are only being released for that day. These records will be sold exclusively at participating stores and won’t release anymore following the event. RSD First Releases are similar, although you will likely see them at other record stores or online later in the future. Finally, Small Run and Regional Titles are either sold at specific stores or have less than 1,000 copies to release.
The issue isn’t finding the record store participating in this event; it’s what to buy. Record Store Day typically has over 400 releases across the entire country. Some of the bigger names in this year’s catalog include Linkin Park, Twenty One Pilots, Beck, and The Flaming Lips. Here are all the rock albums being released that day (organization courtesy of Alternative Press):
