The National’s frontman Matt Berninger has released a new single ‘Let It Be’- and no, it’s not a Beatles cover.
The song, which fits the style of Berninger’s recent debut solo album Serpentine Prison with it’s downtempo acoustic sound and heavy hitting lyrics, will appear on the album’s deluxe edition.
You can watch the lyric video to the new song below.
Fans of The National might remember that Berninger actually referenced ‘Let It Be’ on The National’s hit song ‘Don’t Swallow The Cap’ from their 2013 album Trouble Will Find Me. In the chorus of the song Berninger sings the lines “And if you want, to see me cry, play Let It Be, or nevermind”. While it is unlikely he was referencing a future solo release more than seven years away, it will certainly be something to note for fans of the group.
Berninger also recently collaborated with Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Taylor Swift on separate occasions.
The deluxe edition of Serpentine Prison will be out on March 12th.
