Neil Young has sold a 50% stake of his songwriting catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Fund. The sale includes the copyrights and interests to 1,180 songs either written or co-written by Young throughout his career. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed but are being estimated by the BBC at $150 million.
This is the latest deal for Hipgnosis who recently acquired the publishing rights of Lindsay Buckingham and Jimmy Lovine. Hipgnosis also tried to acquire Bob Dylan’s catalog but had their $400 million offer turned down.
Lindsay Buckingham‘s former Fleetwood Mac bandmate Stevie Nicks also recently sold an 80% stake in her songwriting catalog for a deal estimated at $100 million.
