Matt Healy, frontman of The 1975, is reportedly working on a solo project. This would mark the first time that Healy has stepped away from The 1975 since they first began playing together in 2002.
The news comes from Healy’s mother, actress Denise Welch, who revealed the news in a recent interview with OK.
Healy had previously stated his plans to record a solo project after The 1975’s most recent record ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’. In an interview with Apple Music, Healy talked about the evolution of the music industry and the need for his band to continue to grow and become a “slightly different thing”. Healy stated “One thing I know that we’re gunna do is that I’m doing a Matty record and George [Daniel, 1975 drummer/producer] is doing a George record. And we’re gonna produce each other’s records.”
Matt Healy and his band mates met in high school and have been playing together since. Their time together has seen them nominated for two Grammy Awards as well as win the Brit Award for Album of the Year. Despite the news of the solo projects within the band, there is no indication of a break up for the group.
